January: The Wolf Moon

Welcome to the  first installment of my 13 Moons Spell series.  I've pulled the moon names out of the Farmer's Almanac (which draws on Native American stories and traditions) for this year and my intention is to create a spell for each moon and eventually gather them together to sell as a set.  As a person who reads my blog, you get first crack at these spells!  I'd love to hear your feedback in the comments as well.

January 5th: The Wolf Moon
"In January snow gathers deep in the woods and the howling of wolves can be heard echoing in the cold still air."  Perhaps it's just because I live in modern times however when I hear the phrase Wolf Moon it makes me think of the strength and determination of these powerful apex predators.  As a spirit guide the Wolf is a strong presence that typically calls on a person to increase or trust their "wild sense" or intuition.  In January it's cold outside and more cold is coming but with the help of the wolf we can be strong and keep moving towards the lighter times.

Spell:

Light a grey candle, focus on the strength of the Wolf, sit in the light of the Moon and say:
Wolf, we/I hear your call.  Wolf, we/I face your strength
By the light of the Moon, let us/me hunt with you.
In the shadows of the Wood, let us/me breath with you.
Through the trail let our/my intuition be as full as yours.
Wolf we/I share your strength.  Wolf we/I sound your call.

How stunning is this piece from The Bone Slums?!!!  It's called the Cemetery Seer and the oracular witch in me is drawn very strongly to the stunning opening in this piece which is perfectly accented with dark brown cord and carnelian.  Every piece in the store is cruelty-free and sunning with organic beauty!

My Stuff Mondays and Tarot Wednesdays: catch-up

So opening weekend of the Maryland Renaissance Festival went well, if wet.  But playing catchup from the weekend has lead to me needing to catchup on this weeks posts.

My Stuff Mondays: As I'm sure everyone has heard by now, tomorrow is the second Full Moon in August, making it a Blue Harvest Moon.  Personally I feel like having an extra harvest moon is great because the strength will help to power through the harvest season reaping as much as possible.

I like to keep most of my everyday magic simple and sweet so I will share with you the following spell/blessing that can be used tomorrow night:

Hold a candle between the palms of your hands and direct all of your energy into the candle.  As you light your candle, concentrate on your desired outcome and say (either aloud, or to yourself):
Lady of the Moon, I ask that you grant me your blessing.
In the fullness of your light let my intention become reality.

You can find the entire spell and a New Moon Cleansing spell in my etsy shop.  Use the coupon code KAT10 for 10% off anything, just for being an awesome person.

Full Moon Blessing and New Moon Cleansing Spell Kit

Tarot Wednesdays: I feel like if I were to pull some cards for some of the regional pagan community I would be pulling the Moon and it would read as "you're too emotionally invested to see the problem clearly, consider taking a step back... way back".  The situation is beyond frustrating and I hope that the coming season of darkness will allow everyone involved the time for reflection and re-birth.  But right now, it's The Moon: There are mysteries here that have not been explored and if one can be open to hearing them, they will be rewarded.  However, if one can't step back then they will be fighting the tides and what could be inspiration will instead be madness.  Like the waning and waxing, the moon is a two edged card.

My Stuff Mondays: How to personalize a spell

Samhain Remembrance and Celebration Spells and mini-Altar

Well... it's Tuesday, but I'm close to on schedule :)

Oh yea, and don't forget the giveaway here!

I'm sure by now you all know I provide spell crafting services.  I always enjoy my custom work more than anything else because I have the chance to work with a client and really delve into the deeper intents of the spell work.  I enjoy adding the details and finishing touches that take a spell from being general to very directed for the individual an their intent.  There are some really easy ways to accomplish this for any candle spell you're crafting or casting, even if you just bought the candle off the shelf in the grocery store.

First things first, make sure you like the color of the candle.  Yes, the spell says green but make sure it's a green that represents something to you.  Make sure the scent is not distracting from your spell as well.  Pine might be really positive for a money spell but do you actually like the scent of key lime?

Psychic Power Knot and Sachet Spell
Second, make the candle yours.  Warm a butter-knife or other edged object under some hot water and carve your personal symbol, your name, your initials, the initials of someone else or something that only have meaning in your head into the wax.  This works for any size of candle, even tea-lights.  Altering the candle helps to imprint your energy and intention into the physical object which may increase the effectiveness of your spell.  You're adding energy and intention.

Third, be specific.  When you write an intention, for instance one your are going to burn, make it specific and personal to you.  Bad Example: Abundance.  Good Examples: More opportunities for work, A new job in my field, A positive review next week, To meet a new client.  Being specific and concise in your wording helps to focus your intention and your energy.

This is just the beginning of the list of tips for spell work.  I would love to hear your tips in the comments!

Featured Favorites Friday: Lugh Time

As the wheel of the year truns those of us in the northen hemisphere have recently celebrated the first of the harvest festivals, sometimes called Lammas and other times celebrated as Lughnassah.  Today I am sharing with you some beautiful artisan crafted items that celebrate the Celtic God Lugh.

I love the idea of these Magical Melts from Moonlit Herbals.  What a creative way to combine multiple magical components together in a way that can be used without an open flame.

Her Light of Lugh Magical Melts are scented with Satsuma Oranges, Cassis and Pineapple and contain soy wax, organic herbs and flowers, glitter, crystals and the highest quality essential, essence and fragrance oils.

This gives me an idea to set up a long-lasting spell or altar, honoring Lugh and the Light to last all day, bringing blessings and strength to my home.

You can also find this shop on facebook.

This beautiful hand-crafted Altar Tile featuring Lugh's shield was made by one of my favorite etsy sellers, Paula of The Whimsical Pixie.  The detail is amazing and I love the grain accents along the edges.

This piece honors Lugh as a sovereign protector and warrior. For Paula, his shield represents ability and versatility, attributes that have helped us survive long winters for century's.

This tile would be a beautiful seasonal accent for not just an altar but a home as well.

The Whimsical Pixie can also be found on facebook.

This hand-sculpted pendant depicting the Spear of Lugh crafted by Caeruleus Lady of Hooded Crow Crafts just jumped right off the page at me.  The detail is amazing and as the paint is metallic it will shine as it moves.

There are many myths surrounding the Spear of Lugh including one that tells the spear head had to be kept in a pot of water or it would ignite and cause fire around it.  This pendant surely brings to light that same fiery and powerful essence.

The talented artisans at Hooded Crow Craft would be happy to work with anyone to create a beautiful and meaningful pendant to honor their own gods.  Such work makes my hear joyful.

Follow along with the goings on of the shop at their blog.

Mickie Muller is one of my favorite artists when it comes to laying the might and majesty of the Gods onto canvas and paper.  I am familiar with her main shop offering various items with her artwork on them but I have just found out that she is also the creator of a Celtic Ogham Divination Oracle called Voice of the Trees.  This is SO cool.  No really... SO COOL!

In her Voice of the Trees shop you can find prints, mugs, tarot bags, mirrors and home decor with the deep and meaningful images representing the Trees of the Ogham.

Today I chose to share with you a beautiful wall candle sconce depicting Lugh for the card of Ash.  This card represents transformation and action, breaking inertia and taking care of business.  I wish all of us the power of this card in the months ahead!

You can also find Mickie at her blog and her art website.

Have a great Friday everyone!

13 Goddess WK12: Australian or Polynesian

Getting posts written and scheduled.  Today I bring you my 12th goddess, a spell to Pele the Hawaiian Goddess of fire and passion.

Pele Original Art Print by Serena Grey of Birds Become Fishes

Pele – Motivate Me Candle Spell
This spell is best performed mid-day, when the sun is at its highest point, preferably on a Sunday.  The bright and fiery energy of the Sun helps call to mind the fiery power of Pele and her volcano.
On a piece of tissue paper write out, preferably in three words, what you need motivation for.  What are you asking Pele to help light the fire for?  What do you need to complete?  What are you close to finishing but need an extra push?  Focus on the power or Lady Pele as you write.
Use a pin to carve into a red spell candle; let the heat and energy of the volcano move through you.  Consider carving a tribal sun and/or personal symbols that will add power and intention.  Take another moment to focus yoru energy on the candle, yoru petition and the spell to be performed.  Light the candle, burn the petition paper in the candle flame and say (aloud or to yourself):
Lady Pele, your fire destroys and yet renews
Let this candle light that which is within me.
As the volcano burns and creates
Let this flame heat my passions and move me forward.
If possible, focus and meditate on your desires until the candle is almost burned out.  Combine the ashes and left over wax together and bury it in the earth as close to your home as possible.

13 Goddess WK11: African Goddess Yemaja

Today I bring you a spell invoking Yemaja, the African Yourba Goddess of mothers, children, the rivers and the sea.  Yemaja has traveled the world and resides in every place that slaves once lived.
Yemaya Body Soap Gel by MaidenMotherCrone

Yemaja – Baby Blessing Candle Spell
This spell is best performed during the night of the Full Moon. Spells to bring energy in are done at this time because the energy of the moon helps move things into your life.
Use a pin to carve a river into the candle holding in your mind the life giving and protective properties of the flowing waters governed by Lady Yemaja.  You can add other symbols or words to increase the directedness and power of the spell.
Hold the candle between the palms of your hands and direct all of your energy into the candle.  Using silver (if possible) or blue ink, write the name of the child and words that describe how their life should be (i.e. loved, strong, protected, treasured) out a petition paper.  Light the candle, burn the petition paper in the candle flame and say (aloud or to yourself):
O Yemaja, mother and protectors, guardian of the waters and life;
Guard (Child’s name) against harm and illness.
Watch over him/her with every step he/she takes.
Let your life giving waters always flow through them.
If possible, focus and meditate on your desires until the candle is almost burned out.  Combine the ashes and left over wax together and offer it to a stream near your home or bury it in the earth as close to your home as possible.

Giveaway! Featured Favorites Friday - Faeriegill's Needful Things

One of my favorite Etsy Teams is the Witches of Etsy.  It's a lovely supportive group with some amazingly talented members.  Today I am delighted to share with you an interview with one of the team members,  Gilly  from Faeriegill's Needfull Things and Wishes.  Not only has Gilly agreed to let us in on some details of her creations but she's also giving away a set of BOS pages to one of my lucky readers!  Read on to the bottom to enter via RaffleCopter form.

Futhark Rune Reading by Email

Q: What got you into your work here on etsy?
A: I had been reading tarot via email for a long time and had been doing it on Ebay for a few years and so decided to start doing this elsewhere. I enjoy making small pieces of jewelery, putting together little spell kits and making bath goodies too and so Etsy was recommended to me as a website to sell these on.

Q: How does what you make support the Craft?
A: My mini book of shadows and pdf spells are great for those who are new to the craft and not sure how to write their own spell, this will give them an idea. My mini spells are also geared toward the novice in that they have everything included for to do the spell.

Faerie and Bead Kilt Pin Brooch

Q: Where does your inspiration come from? What is your spiritual path and how does it effect your products?
A: I am inspired by all things faerie, bright colors.  I would say I am a solitary practitioner, I don't belong to any group and prefer to do my rituals alone, I don't particularly stick to one pantheon so in that I guess I am eclectic too. I do try to reflect this in the items I sell too

Q: What is your favorite part of the etsy selling experience?
A: I enjoy the appreciation that my clients give me as they will usually send me an email thanking me, I had one client who even bought me a gift, that truly was a lovely experience, because it showed me I had done a good job.

Q: Which is your favorite holiday and why?
A: My Favorite holiday is Samhain, as this is the end of one year and the beginning of another, I feel a closer connection to the spirits at this time of the year and I also love to see the golden and red colors of the leaves at this time too.

Mini Love Spell Kit

Q: Which piece is your favorite to make?
A: I love all my pieces, I cannot really single one out, as they are all put together with love and harmony.  I love making jewelery items, as I feel that I have created something totally unique

Q: What's your favorite mythical animal and why?
A: My Favorite mythical animal is the Dragon, I have a mini one on my table when doing my Tarot or Oracle readings. as to why, this is simple I was born in the Chinese year of the Dragon.
